My Switch To Mac

Using Life Balance For Getting Things Done?

September 5th, 2005 · 1 Comment

Since we had a long weekend, I have been trying to implement David Allen’s “Getting Things Done” system into my life. And since I spend a lot of time in my office with my Mac, it makes sense to get it working at my desk.

I had initially been re-reading parts of the book and did the collection phase on Saturday and Sunday.

I finished the “collection” phase yesterday but decided that and was about to begin the process phase when I decided I thought it would be wise to finalize the implementation plan.

Initially iCal looked like the way to implement it. I like the color coding and way it sorts to-do lists and calendar items and alarms even when the program is not running.

While not ideal for GTD, iCal has made it easy for me to remember to take my vitamins every day as I am usually in the office in the evening when the alarm goes off.

Amidst my confusion on how to implement Getting Things Done on my Mac, I decided to call a good friend. He recommended Llamagraphics’ “Life Balance” software program.

I just downloaded the software yesterday evening so I really don’t have a substantial review of it yet. It acts like a cross between iCal and a Wiki-type program, and I think it is really neat– but I have not completely “processed” my in box yet.

So the to-do lists the software is generating right now still need some polishing.

I really hope the software works and it looks like it could be really neat. The exciting thing about it is that the Mac download includes both Palm and Mac software so I can sync with a handheld device.

The cost to register is $80– a bit steep for a software package, yes– but a software package that can promise greater efficiency and deliver on it would be worth thousands to me.

I have thirty days to find out.

Have a look at the Kinkless GTD system. You need OmniOutliner Pro, which is pretty useful on it’s own.

The kinkless system is the neatest thing I have seen for a while, and seems to be under continous development.
