iPod Video

The iPod Video completely revolutionizes portable media. Although there have been portable media “jukebox” players in the past, the iPod’s roomy hard drive and its stunning good looks make it the product for everyone to want.

The reviews have been great on this. Take a look:

iPodLounge reviews the iPod video, saying, “Regardless of any review the new iPod receives, we’re convinced that Apple has a no-brainer solution for its customers: in every way except battery life and the absent wall charger, you get more this year than you did last year, and even if you didn’t think you wanted one, you’ll now have a hard disk-equipped video player for the cost of last year’s music player - or the cost of a Sony PSP with only 1GB of flash memory. The 30GB iPod is $100 cheaper than the 30GB Zen Vision, too. Unless a competitor can come up with a radically improved device, there’s no question that Apple will have the most popular - not most powerful - video player around by this time next year.”

Engadget has reviewed the iPod video, saying, “The video iPod won’t disappoint. It feels slim and easy to hold even after two weeks spent with my nano. Video playback is solid. They’re not kidding about 30 fps without sputtering. You can’t fast forward, but you can scroll back and forth on a progress bar—just as you do with music—to jump forward and back in the video.”

MacInTouch reviews the iPod Video, saying, “iPod’s new video capability provides a big jump in value for the iPod line, and starts an intriguing and promising experiment in online media distribution. If you were going to buy your first iPod last month, you’d still buy this one. Potential upgraders may not be thrilled with the hidden cost of buying new accessories, but new buyers will find the latest iPod even more attractive than ever.”

DesignTechnica says, “The new Apple iPod Video excels the evolutionary chain of the iPod to the next step, albeit a small one. The video playback looks very sharp, and although the screen is smaller than those found on true full-sized media players, it works great for short length content like music videos and television shows.”

PCMag.com reviewed the iPod Video, saying, “We downloaded an episode of Lost and a few video podcasts from the iTunes Music Store, and, to our surprise, the viewing experience was remarkably comfortable. Brighter shots look very clear and crisp, though, as with most devices that play back compressed video, you can often see compression artifacts like blockiness and banding in dark areas.”
